The Geneva Motor Show is in full swing, and that means that new cars and cool concept vehicles are on display. We recently mentioned a new version of the Kia Optima, but that’s not the only model that Kia car brought to Geneva. A plug-in hybrid version of the Kia Niro also made an appearance, and everyone here at Executive Kia can’t wait to learn more about this green crossover.
The big addition to the Kia Niro plug-in hybrid is the high capacity 8.9-kWh battery. This battery could give this green car an electric range of around 25 miles on a single charge. This battery is larger, but it won’t reduce cargo room by that much and the interior remains just as comfortable and roomy. Interestingly enough, the Kia brand will also let drivers outfit their Kia Niro plug-in hybrid with an optional towing package. Use that electric power and take advantage of a towing capacity of nearly 2,900 pounds!
Speaking of power, the Kia Niro plug-in hybrid will come equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine that can produce over 130 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. This plug-in hybrid will also differentiate itself from other Kia Niro models with some new styling cues. The trim on both bumpers will be outlined in blue and this vehicle will also come equipped with some updated headlights. This new model will go on sale later this year, and we’ll keep you updated on when it (and a potential all-electric version) will arrive in the United States.
