Some changes to new Kia vehicles take place on a more or less predictable basis. Each model year brings with it changes to body styling, some of them major; updates are made to the power train as more efficient engines are introduced. However, when it comes to in-car technology, all bets are off, since boosts in processor power, changes to the user interface, and other tweaks can and often will be introduced to Bristol drivers on a less predictable schedule. Case in point: Executive Kia customers owning select models from 2014 and later will soon be able to take advantage of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in their vehicles.
Vehicles like the 2017 Kia Sportage that run the UVO3 version of eServices already have compatibility with both software packages. What’s changed is that Kia is rolling out a software update that effectively retrofits certain models to handle the software. The models are as follows:
2014-2016 Kia Soul (gas-powered)
2015-2016 Kia Optima and Kia Optima Hybrid, Kia Sedona and the Kia Soul EV
2016 Kia Sorento
This is a significant move on several levels. For one thing, drivers who own some Kia vehicles from past model years don’t have to pass up on a feature that’s become increasingly common. For another, Kia is to our knowledge the only company taking this step with older models. Finally, the 2017 Kia Forte will be one of the least expensive cars to incorporate Apple CarPlay and Android Auto when it appears at Executive Kia.
Kia will inform customers via email when the update is available, and that email will have instructions for the update. If your model is covered but you’re unsure about installing the update, call 866-649-1422 or come to Executive Kia at 1164 North Colony Rd. in Wallingford, CT for help with the update.
